Most of us have, at some point, tried to find ways to lose or manage weight. Your efforts might involve a healthy diet and exercise regimen, or maybe you’ve tried fad diets that cut carbs or mandate meals that consist purely of cabbage soup – unbelievably, this is a real thing that actual people have done. Why? It defies reason.
If you’ve suffered through every dumb diet known to man with mediocre results, or alternately, spectacular outcomes, but you eventually ended in regaining the weight you lost (and then some), it may not be a diet you’re looking for at all. Perhaps what you need is a sustainable means of appetite control.
What you may not be keen on is taking an appetite suppressant. For starters, dietary supplements are regulated as food, not a drug, by the FDA, even though they could contain drug-like ingredients. In addition, there are some well-known side effects associated with diet supplements.
Many are known to cause undesirable issues like nausea, diarrhea, and constipation. None of these are comfortable or sexy. Then, of course, there’s always the possibility of more serious complications.
Remember how popular Fen-Phen was before it was found to cause lasting damage to heart valves? This is an unfortunate case of the cure being worse than the disease, so to speak.
The point is that you may be looking for a safe way to control your appetite in order to support healthy weight management, and you might be shocked to discover that a corset can help. What does a corset have to do with weight loss and appetite control?
The Skinny on Waist Training and Appetite Control
Let’s preface this discussion by saying a corset is just a compression garment. It’s not a diet nor a miracle worker, but when you understand what it does, you can use it to your advantage.
Compression is the key to enjoying double-duty function while waist training. If you’ve already started a waist training regimen, you know that reducing your waistline by 1-2 inches (or more) requires cinching. The result is some compression of soft tissue, including the digestive tract.
Your intestines are populated by digesting food, waste on its way to elimination, and air. In most cases, you can safely compress this area and, sometimes, even improve motility. Your corset will also compress your stomach so that when you eat, you may feel full faster.
The principle is similar to, say, a gastric band surgery, but without an invasive surgical procedure that permanently reduces the size of your stomach.
Wearing a corset when you eat might not necessarily curb hunger, but if you overeat, you may experience uncomfortable fullness, so it could curb bad habits like mindless eating when you’re not really hungry.
This could help you become more aware of what and how much you’re eating and increase healthy habits like mindful eating and reasonable portion control over time. When you’re consistently eating smaller portions, you’ll eventually become accustomed to eating less and potentially experience reduced hunger over time.
Possible Pros and Cons to Consider
One of the main potential benefits of using a corset as a complement to your current weight loss or weight management regimen is that it can help you to stay motivated. A healthy diet tends to be slow going when it comes to seeing results.
When you put on a corset, you’ll immediately see the waist reduction and increased curviness you crave. This can give you a confidence boost and visual reinforcement that motivates you to stick with the eating and exercise habits essential for weight loss.
The only real difficulty is tempering your expectations. If you cinch into your corset and continue with unhealthy eating habits or patterns of overeating, you are not going to lose weight. You need to address your approach to diet simultaneously so you can take the motivation of wearing a corset and run with it.
Is Waist Training for Appetite Control Right for You?
First of all, let’s just point out that the two are not mutually exclusive. You can waist train to enjoy temporary slimming without trying to control your appetite, and you can enjoy some amount of appetite control without necessarily striving to size down, tight lace, or achieve other typical waist training goals.
Whether you already have an interest in waist training or you’ve tried other types of appetite control with little success, a corset offers another option to consider. As long as you go in with realistic expectations and the understanding that it complements, rather than replaces, a healthy diet, you stand to enjoy positive results.

My name is Rachel, I am the owner of Glamorous Corset, a small business founded by me in 2010. Back In 2005, I was in a car accident that left me with a herniated disk. Much to my surprise I learned steel boned corsets were beneficial to several medical injuries including mine. I was always intrigued with corsetry, their history and their beautiful aesthetic. I love sharing knowledge about corsets, educating my wonderful readers and breaking the negative stigma related to corsetry. In combination with my years of research and personal experience I hope my articles are useful and can help anyone who has struggled with some of the same things I have. More about me…
